A 25-year-old business owner in her first year of trading is among the great and good of the Scottish food and drinks industry shortlisted for “Scotland’s food and drink Oscars.

Rachel Hanretty, right, opened her French-style patisserie Mademoiselle Macaron in Edinburgh in May last year after winning a 20-second business pitch competition run by the Scottish Institute for Enterprise. Now her Macaron Box of 12 is competing for the confectionary and snacking prize at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the National Museum of Scotland tonight.
